Cancer and Homeopathy part 2

Greetings and happy April.

Last month I discussed aspects of cancer from a homeopathic perspective and a cultural perspective.

This month I would like to discuss the work of Dr. A.U. Ramakrishnan of India. India is one of strongest bases of homeopathy in the world. It is among three medical models that are supported by the government. The otther two being Ayurveda and allopathic.   Dr. Ramakrishnan is leading the way for homeopathic cancer theraputics.

"A homeopathic Approach to Cancer"

Dr. Ramakrishnan is a pioneer in the field of homeopathic cancer theraputics. After witnessing the death of both his brother and sister from cancer he devoted his life to this pursuit. He has treated a broad range of different cancers over the last 30 years.

In his book with Catherine Coulter, "A Homeopathic Approach to Cancer" he maps out his ideas around the differences between classical homeopathy and homeopathic cancer theraputics. In the classical homeopathic approach homeopaths look at the individual symptoms and expressions of the person on all levels - mental, emotional and physical.  This approach has served homeopaths well for many, many different kinds of diseases on all levels.  However, homeopaths have often had mixed resutls when approaching cancer.  His approach is quite systematic.  He uses two base remedies to start with.  He will choose one depending upon the type of tumor/manifestation as well as the history of cancer in the person and their family.  Dr.  Ramakrishnan then alternates weekly with a homeopathic remedy that covers that specific organ cancer.  He lists about 3 to 4 different homeopathic remedies per organ cancer and selects one to alternate with the two base remedies.

He employs a special technique called "plussing" that increases the potency each time the person takes a dose.  Hahnemann brought forth "plussing" in his last 6th edition of the Organon.  It is a great way to dose daily at higher and lower potencies.  His treatment protocol continues this way for months on end - he states at least 18 months.  Non cancer classical homeopathy differs as the homeopath gives one remedy then "watches and waits" for results.  The pathology of cancer is such that time is of the essence; things are happening.  Dr. Ramakrisnan feels the "watch and wait" approach isn't the best as the remedy and dosing needs to match the pace of the cancer.

Cancer has 4 different levels or stages with sub stages, and many different manifestations.  Dr. Ramakrishnan breaks down two levels in his work.  Stages I and II and those beyond in stages III and IV.  He feels that stages I and II have more success with homeopathy as the pathology is localized and hasn't metastasized, whereas stages III and IV are different and more difficult as the cancer may have moved to a deeper more important organ.  Dr. Ramakrishnan maps out terminal cases and the palliative homeopathic care that goes with it.

Many people with cancer choose to got to India and consult with Dr. Ramakrishnan, while others choose to find a homeopath versed in his methods here in North America.

I feel that Dr. Ramakrishnan's book "A Homeopathic Approach to Cancer" is a groundbreaking work that addresses one the most destructive and feared diseases of our life time.  It addresses cancer in a very humane, compassionate and systematic way - and most importantly his method has gotten results.
