Welcome Back!
Hello and welcome back to the Homeopathy Seattle newsletter. I’ve been on sabbatical from writing for the past few months. I hope you’ve all been well.
In this edition of Homeopathy Seattle I will take a peek at anxiety. Yes, anxiety. What is anxiety? Can homeopathy help with anxiety? I will also go over some remedies that fit an anxious state quite well for home and personal use. I will also go over when it is time to seek care from a homeopath and help beyond.
In other news I will be having an open house at my office in Ballard (Seattle) on Sunday, December 7, 2008 from 12-4pm. Go to the bottom of the page to check out more details.
Even more news...I was just published in the DHANP (Diplomate of Homeopathic Academy of Naturpathic Physicians) Journal - Simillimum. This is a prominent journal known worldwide for important topics on homeopathy. The article published is entilted "Twins, Identity and Duality: A case for Alumina". Please email me if you would like transcripts - tim@homeopathyseattle.com
What is Anxiety?
We live in incredible times, truly. We have a global financial crisis at our doorstep, countries at war, families being effected by foreclosed homes, jobs disappearing by the millions, a newly elected leader. Why would anxiety be an issue? But what is anxiety, I ask? How does it happen? What does it feel like to be anxious? What does it look like to be anxious? Anxiety, it has been said, is really a fear of the future. Anxiety is an emotion based upon what could happen, based upon events and experiences of the past. We first see anxiety as a child, modeled by parents and caregivers. And perhaps anxiety was created when a need wasn’t met. An 11 year old client with facial tics discussed how scary it felt when his mom was late for school pick up one day. He was left to ponder as a 5 year old if he were alone in the world, or perhaps that his mom didn’t love
him. This was an important part of his case, as something had crystallized on the physical level based upon this emotion of anxiety.
Eckhart Tolle, the author of the “Power of Now”, discusses anxiety as not being present in the here and now. And this separation from the “now” leads to living in the future or the past, which is quite a delusion. If we are not present of “now”, then there is a separation, a split. In this split, one of the main emotions that comes forward is anxiety. And to live continuously in this anxiety of the past or future is termed, insanity. And yet it is a part of the human condition. We are compelled to the world of what may happen, and to the world of what did happen. In the world of homeopathic understanding, emotions like anxiety get imprinted upon the vital force and come out as patterns of illness and disease, both physically and mentally. It becomes important as to what kind of anxiety a person is suffering with, as there are many. By
observing these patterns of this natural disease state homeopaths give a corresponding artificial state, or homeopathic remedy, derived from the animal, vegetable or mineral realm. As a homeopath I look for a match, an energetic match, if you will, as homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars. The classic homeopathic example is that of a bee sting. Homeopathy employees homeopathically prepared (via serial dilution) honeybee stingers to help. This remedy is called Apis Mellifica. We administer Apis internally to a person who is stung by a bee. It’s the philosophy that “like cures like” – or the Law of Similars. We give a very tiny bit of the problem, or something just like the problem, to the problem. A very small dose of the problem stimulates the vital force, or autonomic healing function, to kick into gear and get well.
A recent case of Chronic Anxiety
But what if the issue isn’t acute, but a deep seated chronic illness, in this case chronic anxiety? Recently a man came into my office and he was covered with patchy, flaky and raised psoriasis. It had been affecting him since early childhood. He had tried many, many ways to heal it, all to no avail. As he began to tell about his problem and his life he discussed his need to be hypervigilant about work and his life in general. He felt like a sentinel or solider guarding a fort. Yet, he also felt like a prisoner. In his guarding he had to be acutely aware of everything around him, of a potential attack. There was much anxiety. This hyper guarding doesn’t allow him to live his life as he has to be always on the watch. In constitutional homeopathic treatment I follow precisely where the client goes as they talk about their suffering. For this man his suffering was
summed up by this restless quality which is a part of his psoriasis but on a different level. Disease is one energy emanating out to many places, my job is to find this energy in its many forms (mental, emotion and physical) and then find the homeopathic remedy that corresponds to it. I found the homeopathic remedy, Cuprum Metallicum, or Copper. Copper is a metal on the 4th line of the period table, midway down next to Nickel and Zinc. In homeopathy the 4th line or row of the periodic table has a lot to do with duty and work, attack and defense of the structure. A Cuprum person has mastered defending and is quite successful at it, yet the vigilance is so much that it begins to take its toll on the vital force. Cuprum is a classic homeopathic remedy for neurological complaints like spasms and tics. Interestingly enough, the slang for a police officer is Cop. This name came about
in the early 1800’s in England as the police officers had big copper buttons on their uniform. And beautifully he described his state as being like a guard or a solider watching for the attack. With one dose of Cuprum Metallicum his psoriasis is now going away and he is beginning to experience his life not being on guard or having to be hypervigilent. Many wonderful changes are unfolding.
This is the depth and degree that a well chosen homeopathic remedy acts. It has the power to undo years of anxiety and fear, and bring a person back to balance, bacl to their true selves. And this is the beauty of homeopathy, where something so small can have a dramatic and powerful effect.

Potency Primer:
Anxiety is considered a general, rather than a particular. Anything on the mental emotional level is considered a general. A particular is a part, or a piece. A wart on a hand is considered a particular. General is more of a global idea, rather than a local idea.
6X – A very local issue.
6C – a local issue, a particular. Perhaps something to give repetitiously.
12C – again local.
30C – starting to get into the mental emotional realm with some good physicals going on.
200C – mental emotions are quite prominent as well as the physicals.
Repetition:
6X – can be repeated daily, many times a day.
6C – same.
12C – same.
30C – less frequency. Once daily for a week tops. Single or 3/24 is best.
200C – single dose or 3/24.
Give me a shout if you need any help! I teach classes frequently if you would like to learn more let me know and I’ll let you know when the next classes will be.
When to visit a Homeopath?
Visiting a homeopath is a unique experience. Imagine discussing your ailments in depth and without judgement...have you ever done this? Then craft a remedy based on your individual symptoms? Is this possible? Yes, indeed it is. It actually happens everyday the world over. Become a part of the homeopathic revolution that is taking part worldwide.
If you have serious ailments you should absolutely visit your doctor first and get a diagnosis. Anxiety can be quite serious and debilitating. If so visit your doctor first. What people do in many European countries is that they choose self care with homeopathy first, and if they get no success then they consult with a homeopath. If no success there, then they will visit their primary care doctor. I advise that people should talk to their doctors first and get a diagnosis, then come and see me.
